Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

1937.
#49 / #34
Nominated for 1 Academy Award.

Snow White lives with seven dwarfs and looks for her prince after fleeing from her evil Step-Mother.

Sarah: This is not a favorite Disney film of mine. Prince Charming has a milquetoast personality that makes Snow White's sleeping and cleaning look exciting. The real interesting parts of the movies are the Dwarfs and the Queen. At least they all have distinct personalities and motivations! However, the painted animation is beautiful, and something to truly be admired in the new world of 3D computer animation.

Let's give a thankful slow clap to this film, for being the standard of Disney films. SNOW WHITE set the way for other classics like THE LITTLE MERMAID, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, and THE LION KING. For that, I will appreciate it.

Eddie: Yeah, if this film weren't the first feature length cartoon, it wouldn't be on the list. There are other classic Disney films more deserving than SNOW WHITE. (I'm talking about SLEEPING BEAUTY or CINDERELLA.) It's not a bad movie by any stretch. It's incredibly average. The best part of the movie is the Dwarfs, who make up half the movie. Dopey and Grumpy absolutely steal the show. It's too bad they had to go and fill the other half of the movie with the Queen and the Prince, whom nobody cares about. Oh well. I'm glad that Disney eventually figured out how to make quality cartoons (and then forgot again).

Why You Should See It: Snow White singing "I'm Wishing" at the well, and Prince Charming showing up to respond with "One Song."
