Winner of 3 Academy Awards.
Scout Finch (Mary Badham) grows up during the Great Depression in Maycomb, Alabama. While she watches her father Atticus (Gregory Peck), defend an innocent black man she learns of the evil in her little town. She also spends her days searching for the legendary Boo Radley (Robert Duvall).
Sarah: The opening credits of this movie give me goosebumps. It would be hard for this movie to fail, because the novel it is based on is just so damn good. Plus it has some of the best characters ever in it. The quietly heroic Atticus Finch and the mysterious Boo Radley - and Scout is as innocent and charming as Huck Finn. The story is perfection and the film was well cast. Gregory Peck is the perfect Atticus.
What is magical about this movie to me is the innocent tone it takes. Even the darker scenes are balanced out by Scout and Jem's outlook of the events, and the musical theme.
Eddie: There isn't much to say about this movie, probably because it's so heartbreakingly wholesome. Scout is a great character, eclipsed only by Atticus Finch. If you haven't seen the movie, then you should. But if you haven't read the book, you should do that first... or have Sarah read it to you. She's pretty good at the voices of Maycomb County.
Why You Should See It: The moment when Scout meets Boo Radley.
